Simple Tips for a Cozy Home

It is the winter season here in New England and the weather invites all things warm and comforting. Like hot chocolate and soup! And I love home decor that is cozy and comforting, i.e. a warm fuzzy blanket. Creating a cozy home doesn’t have to involve a lot of time or money. With some simple tips and tricks, you can turn your existing home into a warm and inviting space using items you already own, wall paint colors and accessories.

MODERN

For a modern look, start by painting the walls a neutral shade. Try a light grey or taupe to create a calming atmosphere. Then, add in smaller touches of bright pops of color with accessories like throw pillows, rugs, and artwork. Try to mix and match different textures and patterns to create an interesting and unique look.

TRADITIONAL

Think home library, full of books, and maybe a few furniture pieces that have been passed down from family. For a cozy traditional style, use warm and inviting wall colors like beige, taupe, or light brown. Then, add in a mix of traditional furniture, such as a sofa, a chair, and a coffee table. Finally, add in accessories like lamps, curtains, and throw pillows for added comfort. An oversized chair that you can curl up on with a good book and a warm cup of tea may also help you imagine a cozy space in your home.

RUSTIC If you prefer a rustic look, use wood furniture and natural decor. Stick to wall colors like beige, cream, and light brown for a warm and cozy atmosphere. Accessorize with items like rugs, baskets, and plants, to give the room a rustic and homey feel. I always imagine a fire burning at the hearth. Just writing this elicits a memory of baked bread. This style is more lived in and perhaps eclectic. If this is your vibe, by all means add some rustic elements but be careful not to overdo it, it can be a little

BOHO

Finally, for a bohemian look, use soothing colors. I love white dove by Benjamin Moore and I have it up on my walls. Then, accessorize with items like macramé tapestries, throw pillows, and rugs. The use of a swing chair or an egg chair is also very boho. There is also this new trend in home decor called Coastal Boho, so add in some blues and stripes and you've achieved the look.

You can also add in some plants and candles for an added cozy feel. A favorite boho plant is the Monstera.

No matter what style you choose, you can create a cozy home with items you already own, wall paint colors and accessories. Try out these simple tips and tricks to create a warm and inviting space. The most important tip is to make it your own. Your home, your rules!
